The Female Sports Forum was delighted to attend the launch of Sport NI’s new campaign, Be Seen, Be Heard, Belong. This initiative focuses on leveling the playing field and ensuring women and girls have the same opportunities as men and boys to take part in sport and physical activity. With women making up 51% of the population but participating in sport at lower rates than men and boys, this campaign highlights the need for change.
The event included two engaging panel discussions. The first saw 1500m European Champion Ciara Mageean and NI Senior Women’s Football Manager Tanya Oxtoby sharing their personal sporting journeys while leadership coach Sinead Sharkey Steenson highlighted what might be holding women back and how we can overcome these challenges. Alongside these discussions, the campaign’s launch video captured the essence of the range of sport and activity in Northern Ireland.

At the Female Sports Forum, we firmly believe that sport should be a place of joy and passion at any level or activity for women and girls. Campaigns like Be Seen, Be Heard, Belong play a crucial role in our mission of increasing visibility, and encouraging more women and girls to engage in sport and physical activity.
We look forward to seeing how this campaign progresses and the impact it will have in shaping the future of women’s sport in Northern Ireland.
